Course Description: Math 181 is a sequence of 5 one-unit classes, referred to as "modules." Each module must be registered for separately. Because the course is taught as a combination of self-paced and group led instruction, it is recommended that the student register for each module as it commences. The last day to add modular classes is Monday, March 5^th and the last day to withdraw from modular classes is Monday, March 12^th.

Contents of Modules:

Module A - basic operations with whole numbers, primes, order of operations,

        and applications

Module B - operating with fractions

Module C - operating with decimals

Module D - proportions, percents, interest and percent applications

Module E - introduction to basic algebra, integer operations and solving

        equations

Note: Students who require specific accommodations for a disability should contact the instructor early in the quarter (preferably at the first class meeting).

Text: Essential Arithmetic 7^th Edition, by Johnston, Willis, and Lazaris.

Grading Scale:     A       90 – 100%

                             B       80 – 89%

C       70 – 79%

D       60 – 69%

F       59% and below

A score of 70% or higher must be earned to receive credit for a module.

Exams: Exams will be given following each chapter and the grade for that module will be the average of the exams taken for that module.

Homework: All homework assigned for a chapter must be completed prior to taking the exam for that chapter.

Last Class Session: Wednesday, March 21 at 10:00 AM.

Note: Please be polite and deactivate audio devices prior to entering class.  Pagers and Cellular phones are distracting.  Please do not receive calls during class time.  No calculators will be allowed in the A - C sections, but will be allowed in section D and designated parts of section E.

Assignments:

Assignments are to complete every third problem of the sections covered, e.g. 1, 4, 7....
