MATH 201-1 ELEMENTS OF STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

Textbook: Introductory Statistics, Jay Devore and Roxy Peck, 2nd edition, chapters 1-13.
This is not an abstract course--the emphasis will be on applications, not proofs. Students will learn to apply statistical methods to their own area of study. As with most college courses, two hours of study is recommended for each hour in class.
Speak up in class! Ask questions and share your thoughts. Remember, other students will be grateful for your questions.

Grading Scale: 90 - 100%80 - 89.9%70 - 79.9%60 - 69.9%0 - 59.9% ABCDF Grades will be based on percentage of total possible points, with 600 being 100% Classroom Policies: Homework will be due one week after it's assigned. Late homework and missed surprise quizzes can't be made up, but each students four lowest scores will be dropped. Hand calculators will be allowed in this course on a limited basis.
Computer Laboratory: Current statistical applications require computers. One hour each week will be spent in the computer laboratory learning to use SPSS. There will be assignments to be done in the computer laboratory.
