Required Text:  Algebra and Trigonometry, by Robert Blitzer 2001

Check out the Solutions manual for this course before purchasing it to see if the book meets your needs.

Course Description:  This course covers angles and their measures, trigonometric functions and their graphs, analytic trigonometry, vectors, polar coordinates and parametric equations.  Special emphasis will be placed on application problems and the use of graphing calculators.

Prerequisite:  A grade of "C" or better in Math 103-A, or equivalent or appropriate skills demonstrated through the Math Assessment process.

In this class, it is your responsibility to drop the class in order to avoid an unwanted grade.

You must go to Admissions & Records.

Friday, May 2, 2003 is the last day to drop with no record.

Friday, June 6, 2003 is the last day to withdraw with a “W” grade.

Students with disabilities must identify themselves to me within the first two weeks of class.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities: Students requiring accommodations for a certain disability that may affect class performance are requested to schedule with a staff member at the Disability Resource Center to discuss this during the first week of the quarter so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

* Course materials available in alternate format.

Grading:  Your class letter grade will be based on the usual grading scale:

A:  90% and above,      B: 80-89%,           C: 70-79%,         D: 60-69%,                 F: 59% and under.

                        Homework:                                                   120 points

                        4 Quizzes @ 25 pts each:                                   100 points

                        Midterm Exam 1:                                            150 points

                        Midterm Exam 2:                                            150 points

                        Comprehensive Final Exam:              180 points

                        Total                                                               700 points

Homework:  Practice Problems are not to be turned in for credit.  They are to help you understand the material and study for quizzes/exams.  The Practice Problems are found on the last page of the syllabus.  The homework assignments to be turned in for credit are due in class weekly.  They are found in the lecture schedule following each section.  Each homework assignment is considered late if it is not turned in by 3:30 PM in the box outside my office on the day it is due.  If you will be absent, either turn in the homework assignment early or have someone turn in the homework assignment for you.  Late homework that is turned in within one week of the due date receives half credit.  Homework turned in after this receives no credit.

Quizzes:  There are no make-up quizzes.   I give five quizzes but only four are counted so your lowest quiz score will be dropped. One quiz is worth 3.6% of the course grade.

Midterm Exams:  You must notify me before an exam if you will miss the exam

(541-4660 EXT 368).  Exams must be made up within 3 school days after the scheduled date, with a penalty of 10% (except with written medical excuse). You may take an exam up to 3 school days before the scheduled date without penalty.  Arrangements must be made with me one week in advance.

Parts of the testing (quizzes, midterms and final exam) may have problems that do not allow for graphing calculators.  I will tell you when these will occur.

Please come see me if you do not understand my policies.

Each homework section is worth 6 points.
