Course Description: This course is designed as an introduction to algebra. Topics covered include the four basic operations with positive and negative numbers and with polynomials, solving and graphing linear equations, and introduction to functions and sets, and properties of integral exponents. 20% Exams: There will be 4 exams, usually occurring on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Quizzes: There will be at least 4 quizzes usually occurring on Tuesdays or Thursdays. One quiz may be dropped. Homework: Homework will be collected on the day of the quiz or test. The last day to turn in homework is August 7. No homework will be accepted on the day of the final. Completing homework before quizzes and tests will provide practice and may make tests and quizzes seem easier than if the homework was not done. Final: There will be a comprehensive final exam given on Thursday, August 8 at 10am. Attendance: Regular attendance in class is an obligation assumed by every student at the time of his/her registration. Students will still be responsible for the work missed because of their absence. Homework questions will be answered in class. This can be very helpful in understanding the material, as well as preparing for quizzes and tests. Please familiarize yourself with the sections to be covered in class before attending class. Missed Exams/Quizzes: If a student is going to miss a quiz or exam, the student is responsible for contacting the instructor before the quiz or exam to make arrangements to take it another time.
