Exploring a Curve Close Up
Click on the point to zoom in at the point or use the zoom "o" or zoom "-" buttons to zoom in our out. You can also enter your own function such at sin(x) + x^2 and your own value of x.
1. Using the given function and any point, zoom in at least five or six times at that point. What is the shape of the curve?
2. After zooming in several times, use two nearby points to find the slope of the curve.
3. Try the function y = abs(x), the absolute value of x with the value of x at 0. Now zoom in several times. How does this differ from the curves that were previously tried?
