Problem 1:

A)  2log2 (x - 1) - log2 (x2 - 1) = 2

log2 (x - 1)2 - log2 (x2 - 1) = 2 

log2 [(x - 1)2 /(x2 - 1)] = 2

log2 [(x - 1)2 /(x - 1)(x + 1)] = 2

log2 [(x - 1)/(x + 1)] = 2

(x - 1)/(x  + 1) = 4

x - 1 = 4x + 4

-3x = 5

x = -5/3

but since -5/3 - 1 < 0 there is no solution.

B)  log 32x + 2 = log 53x + 4

(2x + 2)log3 = (3x + 4)log5

x(2log3) + 2log3 = x(3log5) + 4log5

x(2log3 - 3log5) = 4log5 - 2log3

x = (4log5 - 2log3)/(2log3 - 3log5)

C)  log 50/log 7 = 2.0103
