SLO Committee Meeting

Members Present:  Kurt Green, Jon Kingsbury, Beachy Orr, Rosie Hackett, Lisa Foley

Items discussed:

1)      Approval of minutes from November 19 meeting: Approved by consensus

2)  Review of Program Level SLOs:

a)     Kurt stated that there have been five ‘Program Level’ SLOs submitted so far.  Kurt has asked that the committee be sure to bring an LTCC catalog to our next meeting in January to review the ‘Program Level’ SLOs in the Majors section.

b)     The committee discussed the status of ‘Program Level’ SLOs and agreed that we are on schedule.

c)     Upon further discussion, the committee identified the need for Administrators to define the terminology of ‘Program Level’ SLOs.

d)     Kurt has requested that the committee invite Lori Gaskin to our next meeting. 

3)  Standing report from the MASLO Committee:

Kurt reminded the committee about the workshop in Irvine, CA taking place January 31, 2008 through Feb 2, 2008.

4)  Start evaluation process of new courses submitted:

The committee reviewed the original five courses that were submitted for SLOs and MASLOs which resulted in four being moved forward and one being returned to the initiator.

5)  Evaluation of resubmitted courses:

There was one resubmitted course which resulted the one being returned to the initiator. 

6)  Other items:

a)     Rosie cannot make the ‘Retreat on Student Learning and Assessment’ workshop in Irvine, CA so Kurt has asked Lisa Foley if she would like to attend.  Lisa will get back to Kurt on her availability.

b)     Kurt stated that he talked to Lori Gaskin regarding the process for the Curriculum Committee, Administration, and faculty to re-evaluate SLOs and MASLOs. She will set up a meeting with Kurt and Mike Spina during the winter quarter for discussion.

c)     Kurt will send out an email today to faculty reminding them about their ‘Assessment Plan’.

d)     The committee discussed the possibility of not having a meeting next week as there are no courses currently at the SLO level for review.

e)     The committee discussed having meetings in January on Mondays starting with the 2^nd Monday (January 14) from 10:00 to 11:00. (Subsequent to this discussion, Lori Gaskin told Kurt that she could not make the January 14 (Monday) meeting but she could make a January 9 (Wednesday) meeting from 10:00 to 11:00. We will make our first meeting on this date.)

Meeting was adjourned at 10:00am.
