Items discussed:

1)      Schedule meeting dates:

It was decided by the committee that the SLO Committee meeting dates for the rest of this quarter will be 10/16, 10/30, 11/13, and 11/27.  The committee will be meeting every other Monday to review the SLOs that the faculty are writing.  We will provide templates and assistance, and we hope to have discipline specific examples of SLOs to help faculty engage in this process.

2)     Curriculum Committee update:

The committee discussed a number of items, some of which must be brought to the senate before “action” can begin.  Recommendation #1 will be to change ‘Student Outcomes’ on our course outlines of record to Student Learning Outcomes and ‘Methods of Evaluation’ to Methods of Assessing Student Learning Outcomes.

3)     Curriculum Revisions:

The committee also reviewed the Curriculum Report that addresses the courses that are up for review, and we believe that is the place to begin the SLO process.  If you are up for a course revision, along with the revision, you will be writing SLOs for those courses.  The deans will be contacting the faculty who are on the list, and we will be providing information to guide you through the revision process.  Kurt met with the Curriculum  Committee and will be recommending to the senate that the SLO Committee review all course revisions for appropriate SLOs prior to the revisions going to the deans.  This will be discussed at senate.  The faculty most likely to be affected this year are those who have curriculum due during this cycle.  We are also going to recommend a revision of the Mission Statement that reflects the institution’s commitment to SLOs.

4)     Committee goals/workload:

The committee felt that a three-year cycle for completion of SLOs for all courses would be a workable timeline.  Each year, one-third of the faculty will be working on SLOs, and those who show up on the revision list for this year will be the first group.  Once again, the deans will be contacting the faculty regarding this.

Meeting was adjourned at 4:30pm.
