SLO Committee Meeting

Members Present:  Kurt Green, Jon Kingsbury, Beachy Orr, Rosie Hackett, Lisa Foley

Items discussed:

1)      Approval of minutes from May 21 meeting: Approved by consensus

2)  Start evaluation process of new courses submitted:

The committee reviewed the original 18 courses that were submitted for SLOs and MASLOs which resulted in all 18 being moved forward. 

3)  Library Program SLOs – Lisa Foley:

Jon raised concern regarding the library core competencies.  Kurt thought they needed to be better identified and to show a clearer map.  Kurt suggested that Lisa look to our web site for suggestions.

4)  Deadline dates for Phase III SLOs:

Jon felt that the deadline for Phase III SLOs should be the end of winter quarter.  This is due to the influx of SLOs coming through at the very end of spring quarter, leaving no time for them to go to the Curriculum Committee in time for their last meeting.  The committee agreed.  Kurt will email faculty of the new deadline date.

5)  Other items:

a)     Kurt brought to the committee his suggestions (a document he titled ‘Convocation 2008’) that explains what he would like to have happen during convocation week that includes a round table discussion on SLO assessment and helping faculty design assessment plans and produce an assessment report.  Jon suggested he also bring up at convocation that faculty can revise their SLOs that they completed in ‘Phase I’ and ‘Phase II’ but that there is a process to follow.

b)     Jon suggested after ‘Phase III’ to merge both SLO and Assessment Committees.  Kurt thought this was a very good idea.

c)     Kurt informed the committee that he will speak to Lori Gaskin regarding the new researcher and that he would like the SLO and Assessment Committees to have access to him/her for help in research for both committees.
