Members Present:  Kurt Green, Jon Kingsbury, Beachy Orr, Lisa Foley

Members Absent:  Rosie Hackett

Items discussed:

1)      Approval of minutes from April 23 meeting: Approved by consensus

2)  Start evaluation process of new courses submitted:

The committee reviewed the original 28 courses that were submitted for SLOs and MASLOs which resulted in all being moved forward. 

3)  Other items:

a)     Kurt submitted to Lori Gaskin the section of the Program Planning Handbook to be put under section #V – Elements of the Report in section ‘J’ – Student Learning and Success.  She will take it to the Dean’s meeting and then on to the Senate.

b)     Kurt spoke to Lori Gaskin about having flex time for writing SLOs.  Lori said that that would be something that the administration would certainly accept.  She asked Kurt to determine the workload hours.  Jon suggested adding the assessment process to the flex time and Kurt thought it best to let the deans decide on the time commitment.  It was agreed to move it to Lori with these recommendations.

c)     Kurt suggested that maybe Convocation time should include writing SLOs and assessments. Beachy suggested putting assessments on the web site for faculty to get ideas on how to go about the assessment process.

d)     Beachy asked about our new president and his knowledge about SLOs and the assessment process.  Lisa stated that Nevada’s colleges are ahead in doing SLOs and assessments.  Kurt expects to meet with Dr. Killpatrick after he starts his term in July.
