Lake Tahoe Community College SLO Committee Meeting Wednesday, April 23, 2008 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm Tallac Room Minutes
Members Present: Kurt Green, Jon Kingsbury, Beachy Orr, Lisa Foley Members Absent: Rosie Hackett Staff: Terry Livesay
Items discussed: 1) Approval of minutes from April 16 meeting: Approved by consensus
2) Start evaluation process of new courses submitted: The committee reviewed the original 23 courses that were submitted for SLOs and MASLOs which resulted in 22 being moved forward and one being returned to the initiator.
3) Review of Program SLOs for BIO, BSN, and ENG: The committee reviewed the Program SLOs that were presented for BIO, BSN, and ENG. The committee decided that along with a few minor changes the sentence in the Majors and Certificate section that reads ‘Upon successful completion……’ shall read ‘Student Learning Outcomes for this Major (or Certificate) are…’. This change is only for the Program SLOs that the SLO Committee has approved.
4) Other items: a) Kurt brought to the committee the proposed addendum addressing SLOs (and their assessment) that is to be incorporated into the Program Planning Handbook under section #V – Elements of the Report in section ‘J’ – Student Learning and Success. Jon likes how it fits into the section and in the overall goal of program planning. The committee agreed, so Kurt will submit these to Lori Gaskin. b) Lisa asked if there is a difference between ‘Program Plan’ and ‘Program Review’. Kurt stated they are the same, just called differently depending on the college. c) Lisa asked if the SLOs for the Majors should also be in the Program-level SLOs. Kurt said that differences between Majors and Program-level SLOs can exist and noted that in the English Department the differences exist because there are classes outside the major (basic skills, bridge classes, etc.) but within the department. Lisa asked what the Major should entail. Kurt stated that this should be brought up with the English Department.
