Lake Tahoe Community College SLO Committee Meeting Wednesday, January 28, 2009 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm Room A106 Minutes
Members Present: Kurt Green, Jon Kingsbury, Lisa Foley Absentee Member: Scott Valentine Staff: Terry Livesay
Items discussed: 1) Approval of minutes from January 21 meeting: Approved by consensus.
2) Start evaluation process of new courses submitted: The committee reviewed the original 11 courses that were submitted for SLOs and MASLOs which resulted in all being moved forward. There were five additions which resulted in two being moved forward and three being returned to the initiator.
3) Discussion on finalizing 3-phase process: Kurt stated that the committee will draft a report at a later date as it is apparent that many faculty, who are now going through the assessment process, are realizing they may need to revise their SLOs. Jon stated that we shouldn’t formalize the demise of the SLO Committee as this committee will need to process the changes in SLOs that faculty may decide to make in the future.
4) Other items: a) Kurt met with Diane Rosner regarding adjunct training and not just on SLOs. Diane suggested that Sara and Christina who have done the templates for the Assessment Committee create a DVD for the adjuncts to train from on their own computer. Possibly make it part of the adjunct orientation in September. Let the adjuncts be able to access the DVD on LTCC’s web site. b) Kurt submitted the mid-term report to Dr. Lori Gaskin. At the next Senate Meeting, Kurt will propose that a draft of a resolution be drawn up asking that the Board convene a college-wide committee consisting of two members of each constituency to create a new ‘Mission Statement’. A member of the Accreditation Commission stressed quite strongly that we have not addressed in our ‘Mission Statement’ two areas that contribute to our area’s uniqueness and those are our Hispanic population and our change in demographics, i.e., schools closing, the community declining, etc. c) Kurt stated that as of the last update, the total was 89% of SLOs being completed. With the SLOs reviewed today, the total is now 90%.
Meeting was adjourned at 3:00pm. |
