SLO Committee Meeting

Minutes

Members Present:  Kurt Green, Jon Kingsbury, Beachy Orr, Lisa Foley

Staff:  Terry Livesay - absent  (minutes submitted by Jon Kingsbury)

Items discussed:

1)      Approval of minutes from January 14 meeting: Approved by consensus

2)  Start evaluation process of new courses submitted:

The committee reviewed the original three (3) courses that were submitted for SLOs and MASLOs which resulted in all three being moved forward.

3)  Other items:

a)     The committee discussed the need for a meeting next week as there were no other courses in the pipeline and agreed that the January 30 meeting would be cancelled.

b)     The meeting scheduled with Lori Gaskin and Mike Spina for Friday, January 18 was cancelled and will be rescheduled at a future date.

c)     Kurt reminded the committee that he would be attending the assessment workshop next week in Irvine and will present a report on the status of all of the college’s courses and their SLOs at a future committee meeting.

d)     The committee discussed different ideas on how Kurt could disseminate the information he gathers from the workshop next week on SLOs and MASLOs. Packets for committee members and postings on the SLO website were considered. It was also agreed that Kurt should attempt to collect information from fellow attendees on the handling of Program/Department/Major level SLOs.

e)     The committee performed a preliminary review of the five (5) program level SLOs that Kurt received from Lori Gaskin. It was agreed that the committee would delay final review until after Kurt returns from the assessment workshop next week. Kurt also informed the committee that it has until the end of the winter quarter to make revisions to program level SLOs and still have them in next year’s catalog.

f)     Kurt provided a list of all the majors, certificates, and short-term certificates offered by the college. It was agreed to split them among Kurt, Beachy, Lisa, and Jon. Preliminary review of the majors SLOs would begin by the individuals with further review at a future meeting.
