SLO Assessment Meeting

February 21, 2008

In Attendance:  Christina Tomolillo, Larry Green, Beth Laster

Next Friday Feb 29 – Division Meetings - facilitate faculty discussions and progress on Measurement of SLOs

Larry – Math, Science, PE, etc.

Christina and Kurt – Social Sciences/Humanities

Beth – Student Services

Faculty will bring their SLOs and any assessments done so far.

MASLO Committee members – will bring handouts with examples (that we’ve done and/or examples from other colleges)

We will present finished examples to give some guidance.

Break into groups by dept or area

Discuss/work on measurement of SLOs

Give guidance, examples

Faculty exam questions – current questions are probably already measuring the SLOs – pull questions out as measurement of a particular SLO

Potentially difficult areas:

Multiple faculty teaching the same course

Do they have to have the exact same exam qs to measure a particular SLO?  Or does each faculty member have to have an exam question of his/her choice to measure a particular SLO?

Written responses (e.g. ask the class “do you agree with the author’s point of view on X?  Write down why or why not”)

What percentage of students gave a “good” response (met the outcome of Critical Thinking)?

Look at that percentage (as a department).  Is that percentage acceptable?

If yes – then we are ok

If no – change your technique and re-measure

Use data to improve teaching
