SLO Assessment Plan for MAT 152A

SLO 3:  Determine the equation and graph a line given information about the line.

Assessment Tool:

We will look at the exam or exams that assess the students’ understanding of equations of lines and graphing lines.   The exam or exams should contain at least one problem that asks the student to find the equation of a line given two points or similar information.  It should also include at least one problem that asks the student to graph a line given an equation.

Rubric for assessing the SLO:

Mastery:  The student was able to work out the problems without errors.

Some Understanding:  The student worked out the problem and clearly understood the concept, but made a minor mistake or two in its execution.  Significant progress was made.

No Understanding:  The student either left the problem blank or made no significant progress towards successfully solving the problem.

Conclusions

Each instructor will compile the percent of students that fell into each category.  The MAT 152A instructors will then meet to discus what worked for the students’ learning and come up with strategies for improving their learning.
