Assessment Plan

 

1.         Write an evidence-based literary analysis demonstrating interpretive skills,            logical reasoning, and argumentative strategies.

 

            Collect a random sampling of essays from the two sections of this course during             winter quarter 2008.  Norm rubrics and conduct assessment during spring English     department retreat.

 

2.         Define and explain the major elements of the three genres covered in the course.

 

            Collect and compile test data addressing each genre during winter quarter.  Share,         discuss, and evaluate data at spring English department retreat.

 

3.         Analyze and evaluate assigned and researched texts.

 

            Collect and compile a sampling of one page response papers submitted during   winter quarter. 

 

4.         Apply critical thinking and logical reasoning skills to the text of life.

 

            Instructor evaluation of group discussions.  Instructor evaluation of student self-             assessment.

Student self-assessment to be given at the beginning of the quarter and then during finals week.
